What is the difference between a frame and a truss ?

In building construction, a truss is a section of roof framing. The walls, top plates, and bottom plates are a frame. A truss has a top chord, a bottom chord, and intermediate members. They are usually on diagonals to form triangles, which gives the truss component strength. A frame can simply consist of a bottom, top, and two sides, like a picture frame. In framing construction, it is a supporting structure. It can be built with wood, light gauge metal studs, or columns and beams.
